Chapter 49: Clients

The view from my garden entrance.

Lima beans grow heavy on the cattle panels. I used them as a privacy block from the county road. Squash plants are starting to give fruit while the crawling cucumbers are slow to get going.

Trains pass close by on the treacle above as I fill my water totes down by the creek.

I'm headed back to the garden with full tanks of water through a field of wild prairie grass and sunflowers.

Making it up the steep hill back onto the county road is always a difficult challenge. Between the water and trailer weight, the tractor is at its limit for hauling.

I arrived at the scene of the accident, stunned to think anyone could survive. The cab completely flattened back to the holding tank, and lit oil starting to drip on the road.

Quickly, I got the pump hooked up and running so the county worker could hold the pressurized line on the other side of the fence to put out the fire and douse the smoking oil.

I returned to the garden to get back into my routine. I let the ducks out, and they were excited to get fresh, clean water to swim in.

I enjoyed watching the ducks bob for their oats as they delighted in their natural duck activity.
